"Our most ancient metaphor says life is a journey. Memoir is travel writing, then, notes taken along the way, telling how things looked and what thoughts occurred. . . .This is the traveler who goes on foot, living the journey, taking on mountains, enduring deserts, marveling at the lush green places...as a pilgrim, seeking, wondering." -Patricia Hampl

Have Bjorn, Will Travel

Spring is peeking through in the usual places: the tables are set out at Cafe Cibon, the yellow Mini-Cooper that delivers pizzas around the city has sported it's daisy rims, and a family of robins has made a little nest in the bushes next to our house. It's time to get outside! Finally! {big sigh}

Our January baby is doing beautifully: finding her hands, laughing out loud (belly laughs!), getting curious about her environs--which, to date, have mainly been indoors. Now I find that with the first glimpse of sunlight (and the forecast on channel 9), I'm planning my day around when I can take Devi out for a bonafide walk around her Park Ave. neighborhood.

I'm writing the rest of this entry with one, non-dominant hand...Dev's asleep in the other. Here: enjoy some photos until I can write again! These are the most recent: Devi at ten weeks old.

Meet Devi!

On January 19, we became parents to the Amazing and Delicious Devi Shayna Gebell! At 6 lbs. 4 oz. and 18.5 inches, this little girl was ready for the world a day prior to her due date (Martin Luther King Day--and a day before Obama's inauguration!). Already she is curious, smiley, and totally yummy. Enjoy the video--it took me all night to figure out how to upload, and I don't have many spare minutes right now!

All of us are well--Devi is currently 8 weeks and sleeping more than she did, um, 3 weeks ago...she's a prize eater and loves following her patchwork elephant, Elmer, with her lovely blue eyes (we're not sure what color her hair is yet). At present, in free minutes, I am journaling (remember journaling? you do it by hand) for her, so not much blog writing just now. But I promise to update!
